Photo Tools

In this page you will find iexcellent tools for photographers.

I selected the best ones i found and i use everyday. is the most useful tool i use.

I bought it 2 years ago and it's for me the best app i have on my smartphone.

When you are a photographer this app is just magic! allows you to display the future trajectories of the sun in augmented reality:

  • Look through your phone and see the path of the sun.

  • Plan the sunrise and sunset times, not only on the horizon, but also on a building or a relief.

  • Travel in time and see what course the sun will follow in the months to come.

  • Display the summer and winter solstices, showing the extreme positions of the sun over a year.

  • Predict the sun reflection in water.

  • Take and save photos.

  • Check afterwards the different trajectories of the sun for a whole year.

  • Plan your pictures according to the light effect you wish to create.

  • Plan when a subject (like a statue for instance) will be lit from the angle you have chosen.

  • Plan when that same subject will be aligned with the moon.

  • Use the calendar of the moon phases.

  • Plan when the sun will light a scene (and not be hidden by a mountain or a building).

  • Imagine the outline of shadows on the scene at a later date.

  • Use the agenda to plan your future pictures.

  • This way, you will know when to return to the site to take your picture to the maximum effect.

The Photographer's Ephemeris

The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) helps plan outdoor photography shoots in natural light, particularly landscape and urban scenes. It’s a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, day or night, for any location on earth.

Created for photographers by a photographer in 2009, TPE is a software tool available for desktop and mobile devices to help you plan outdoor photography shoots to ensure the best possible natural light.

Blue Hour Site

To not miss any more opportunities

Have you ever wanted to create beautiful night photos but it was completely dark when you found the right spot and subject? Well the web site will help you by calculating the best time frame for taking stunning blue hour pictures. If you don't know what is "blue hour" then you're in the right place. It refers to the time after the sun goes below the horizon and the sky goes into deep blue for a while. This is the best timing to take photos.

Available for Desktop or iPhone

Bokeh simulator
& depth of field calculator

This web application calculates the depth of field in a photo, visualizes it and simulates the background blur (bokeh) based on parameters like: lens focal length, aperture, sensor size and distance of the object and the background from the camera. Changes in parameters are immediately visible in the simulation. This allows to easily observe how they affect the final effect.

Also avalaible for Android devices

to compare cameras

to compare photographs produced by cameras

This tool lets you compare reference images from digital cameras side-by-side. These images are JPEGs straight from the camera, and were taken under carefully-controlled conditions, to provide valid comparisons of camera capabilities in actual shooting situations. You can also download the images (using your browser's "save image as" function) and output them on your own printer, to see how the cameras involved will perform in your application.

With this website you can compare all the camera that exist.

It's simply excellent when you want to proof to your friends Nikon is better than Canon!

Hey! It's a joke, stay here!

Killer web-app for camera nerds!

camera comparison

The side by side comparison tool lets you easily view the specifications of two or more cameras. Choose the cameras from the list of the left then press compare. The results will be displayed in a new window, so make sure that you temporarily disable any popup blockers that you may have.

With this website you can compare all the cameras too.

Like DPREVIEW or Snapsort you can see the specifications of the cameras but the presentation is more nice.

But Versus dont compares only cameras, it compares a lot of things, like towns, watches, smartphones (3D version), some graphic cards and tablets.

DxO Mark

And for the end ( yes, after i stop to speak about comparison tool, i promise), here is the best.

DXOMark is the most advanced comparison tool of the world.

DxOMark is the trusted industry standard for camera and lens independent image quality measurements and ratings. For years they have established their reputation for the best: rigorous hardware testing, industry-grade laboratory tools, database of thousands of camera-lens test results.

DxOMark consists of a comprehensive RAW-based image quality measurement database and a set of scores used to evaluate and compare digital cameras and lenses.

If you plan to get a camera you MUST check this website, it's essential to really know the quality of what you will buy.

One more thing, remember that DxOMark don't test and rate the entire body of the camera but only the sensor.

Jpeg Mini

For me, the most powerful

compression tool i never saw!

JPEGmini is a patent-pending photo recompression technology, which significantly reduces the size of photographs without affecting their perceptual quality. The technology works in the domain of baseline JPEG, resulting in files that are fully compatible with any browser, photo software or device that support the standard JPEG format.

JPEGmini is capable of reducing the file size of standard JPEG photos by up to 80% (5X), while the resulting photos are visually identical to the original photos. The JPEGmini algorithm imitates the perceptual qualities of the human visual system, ensuring that each photo is compressed to the maximum extent possible by removing redundancies, without creating any visual artifacts in the process. This enables fully automatic, maximal compression of photos with no human intervention required.
